What is a 'plug-in' and where can I get them? Is an add-on the same as a plug-in?

Solution
Plug-ins and add-ons are packages that can be written by any programmer and placed on your site to increase the features for either the members or the site admin. Plug-ins mainly are placed in your plugins directory and interact directly with the database, such as adding or deducting from member earnings, automatically scheduling ads to be sent out, or adding newfeatures, such as Paid-to-promote.

Add-ons are generally a type of customisation for the scripts that does not affect the database, and are not placed in the plug-ins directory. More plug-ins are being created and released all the time, and a wide range is available from Scripts-R-Us. See the following URLs.
